 Thyroid gland is the largest endocrine gland ,it consists of right and left lobe. It is located at the front of neck below the Adam's Apple.

The thyroid gland secretes three hormones: the two thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and tri-idothyronine (T3) -and a peptide hormone, calcitonin.thyroid hormones influence the metabolic rate and protein synthesis, and children growth and development. Calcitonin plays a role in calcium homeostasis.

• Thyroid hormones are created from thyroglobulin.

• Iodine is  essential for the production of the thyroid hormone.

• Euthyroid-state of normal thyroid function in the body.

• Thyroid hormone increase = hyperthyroidism/thyrotoxicosis 

• Thyroid hormone decrease =hypothyroidism,cretinism,                                                                          myxoedema, goiter
