 Pituitary gland is the size of a pea and is located in a bony hollow, little behind the bridge of nose. It is attached to the base of brain by a thin stalk. The pituitary gland is also called the master gland because it controls several other hormone glands in body, including the thyroid and adrenals, the ovaries and testicles.

 Weight -500mg

 Pituitary gland has 3 parts 

1. Adenohypophysis or interior pituitary :- 

 • Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH)

• Follicle stimulating Hormone (FSH)

• Growth hormone (GH)

•Luitenizing Hormone (LH)

•Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

•Prolactin

2 . Posterior Pituitary or Neurohypophysis 

•secrets of oxytocin and vasopressin

3. Intermediate lobe 

•secrets melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH)

•Growth hormone excess:- • Adult:-Acromegaly

                                                 •Child:-Gigantism 

• Growth hormone deficiency 

             • Growth retardation

              • Dwarfism,Simmonds disease
